Angel, of course, is just a fancy way to say messenger. They can be heavenly creatures or flesh and blood like us. But more than their makeup is their God message. The Christmas story is full of angel messages from God. There’s the message of favor, companionship and selection to a very ordinary teenage girl, living under a brutal regime. There’s the message to trust God more than biology and the message to come out of fear. And then there’s the message of counsel, and comfort to a disappointed husband giving him a blessed assurance. In this season we sing Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, let us receive with joyful obedience the angel message our faithful God has for us.
