Discerning a Call to Ministry

All baptized persons are called to minister in Christ’s name. It is the role of the Bishop, the Commission on Ministry, and parish clergy and lay leadership, to assist all persons in discerning those persons whose gifts for leadership and vision mark them as potential leaders in the church, either lay or ordained.

Those discerning a call toward licensed lay ministry, the FAB (Formation for All the Baptized) School for Ministry supports that process.

All those discerning a call toward ordained ministry should be in touch with their parish rector for conversation about this.  The discernment process starts each January with an 8-session discernment cohort. The discernment cohort meets on Zoom, with the final session in-person; sponsoring clergy attend the final in-person session.  To register for the discernment cohort, please contact Sally Ulrey at sulrey@episcopalatlanta.org.
