When St. Julian’s Episcopal Church Junior Warden, Taylor Edwards, found out that the parish’s Backpack Program at Annette Wynn Elementary had been suspended, it didn’t keep him from making sure that children are fed during this pandemic.
Taylor cleaned off the food shelves in St. Julian’s parish hall and gave all the food to a Gift Of Love Services, which is located next door to Annette Wynn, said St. Julian’s Rector, The Rev. Brandon Duke.
“A Gift of Love is working with the school system to distribute boxes of food,” Duke said in a post on the church’s Facebook page. “Therefore, this was a good place for our food offerings to be handled,” Duke said in a post on the church’s Facebook page. “The school sends parents over to their location to pick up bags/boxes of food and they have people on hand all day to hand it out.”
Looking ahead to when the church can reopen, Duke said restocking the Backpack shelves will be the church’s way of serving those who will continue to be in need.
