Celebrating 50 Years of Women in the Priesthood: The Rev. Edith Woodling

Oct 3, 2024

The Rev. Edith Woodling was ordained as a Deacon in The Diocese of Atlanta in 1995. She served five parishes, starting at St. Anne’s, mentored by Eloise Lester.

At the time of her ordination, she was Dean at Pace Academy, where she led an award-winning Service Learning Program. In 1999, she became the founding head of Christ Church Episcopal School in Norcross, the first ordained woman to lead an Episcopal school in the U.S.

Edith later served as Chaplain at St. Martin’s Episcopal School and was engaged in outreach and mission throughout her ministry. She worked at St. Benedict’s Episcopal Church and briefly at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School as Interim Chaplain.

Currently, she is a postulant for priestly orders, returning to St. Anne’s as she awaits ordination, reflecting on her journey as “a sacred journey and grand adventure!”
