God loves to make God’s children wealthy! Of course I’m not talking about praying for the winning Powerball ticket or even some kind of prosperity gospel. I’m talking about how God’s life-giving word leads us to life riches. Many are the tales of those who have all the trappings of an abundant life without a reputation for integrity, joy or peace. God’s approach begins the other way around. Start off with meticulously attending to God’s word and life riches will follow you no matter your cash position. “A good name is better than great riches, God’s favor is better than silver and gold.” This word from Proverbs is not a dismissal of financial wealth, it’s a market-proof and timeless definition of real wealth! God loves us enough to always point us to what is good and right. How do we get a good name? By following God’s plan for equity, justice, service, simplicity, generosity, forgiveness and conflict resolution–especially when those things cost us big. A good name comes to us when we recognize that an outward and visible sign of the inward and spiritual grace of life with God is truth and fairness in large and small matters.
