“Incline your ears to the words of my mouth…” God says through the pen of the psalmist. This simple prompt is the center of what humility means and is the measure and delight of the faithful person. To “incline” is to stretch out toward something, to bend and be biased towards it. To incline to God’s words is to tune one’s life for harmony with God. When we incline our ears to God’s words, we don’t end up with a bulging bag of prohibitions, we find that our burdens are lightened, our appetite for chaos is reoriented to peace and our imaginations are enlivened.

Inclina
“Inclina tus oídos a las palabras de mi boca…” Dios dice a través de la mano del salmista. Este simple impulso es el centro de lo que significa la humildad y es la medida y el deleite de la persona fiel. “Inclinarse” es estirarse hacia algo, doblarse y estar sesgado hacia él. Inclinarse a las palabras de Dios es sintonizar la vida de uno para la armonía con Dios. Cuando inclinamos nuestros oídos a las palabras de Dios, no terminamos con una bolsa llena de prohibiciones; encontramos que nuestras cargas se alivian, nuestro apetito por el caos se reorienta hacia la paz y nuestra imaginación se anima.
