Some imagine a relationship with Jesus as one without much accountability. What Jesus actually said, was, “…a man planted a fig tree and he came looking for fruit….” The story ends with the tree getting one more year and new fertilizer to bear fruit or it will be cut down. Grace, yes! But, a grace that keeps growth primary. Our frequent habit is to provide substitutes for growth like longevity of church membership or financial generosity. Both are good things and may even point to growth but Jesus wants the new sweet fruit of adoration that nourishes enlarged neighborliness.

Responsabilidad
Algunos imaginan una relación con Jesús como una sin mucha responsabilidad. Lo que realmente dijo Jesús fue: “… un hombre plantó una higuera y vino a buscar fruta …” La historia termina con que el árbol obtiene un año más y un nuevo fertilizante para dar fruto o será cortado. Gracia, ¡si! Pero, una gracia que mantiene el crecimiento primario. Nuestro hábito frecuente es proporcionar sustitutos para el crecimiento como la longevidad de la membresía de la iglesia o la generosidad financiera. Ambas son cosas buenas y pueden incluso apuntar al crecimiento, pero Jesús quiere el nuevo fruto dulce de adoración que nutre la vecindad ampliada.
