If Philip could see the Father, he told Jesus he would be “satisfied.” Philip wanted more than the promise of a room in a celestial mansion to be satisfied. Philip’s request and Jesus’ response show us you can be close to Jesus and still be blind to his uniqueness, commitment to companionship, faithfulness in revealing the Father, works of power and gift for empowering us. Jesus finishes his response to Philip by saying, “I have arranged things so that if you believe in me, …you will do greater things than these.” If you flip the exchange upside down, a question boomerangs back to Philip and maybe us. How can you be so close to Jesus and still not be satisfied?

Felipe le dijo a Jesús que estaría “satisfecho” si pudiera ver al Padre. Felipe quería tener la certeza más allá que un lugar en la mansión celestial. La petición de Felipe y la respuesta de Jesús sirven como un recordatorio de que es posible estar cerca de Jesús sin dejar de ser consciente de su singularidad, dedicación a la amistad, consistencia en la exposición del Padre, obras de poder y capacidad para educarnos. Jesús termina su respuesta a Felipe diciendo: “He arreglado las cosas para que si crees en mí… harás cosas más grandes que estas.” Si le damos la vuelta a la conversación, una pregunta retorna a Felipe y posiblemente a nosotros. ¿Cómo es posible estar tan cerca de Jesús y no estar satisfecho?
