“…despite the increasing complexity and velocity of modern life, we refuse to allow the corresponding bewilderment to drive us to the blasphemy of self sufficiency or rank tribalism.  You and I have been given and have accepted the high calling of partnership with God. The substance of that partnership is to demonstrate in the real, beautiful and broken world two things: The irreducibility of God and the irreducibility of neighbor. Our loyalty to these two tenants will break the adolescent appeal and power of loathing of other, loathing of political opposition. What that means practically is that you and I must purge from ourselves every residue of contempt.”

“…a pesar de la creciente complejidad y velocidad de la vida moderna, nos negamos a permitir que el desconcierto correspondiente nos lleve a la blasfemia de la autosuficiencia o el tribalismo rancio. Tu y yo hemos recibido y hemos aceptado el gran llamado a una asociación con Dios. La esencia de esa asociación es demostrar en el mundo real, hermoso y roto dos cosas: La irreductibilidad de Dios y la irreductibilidad del prójimo. Nuestra lealtad a estos dos inquilinos romperá el atractivo adolescente y el poder de odiar a otros, el odio a la oposición política. Lo que eso significa prácticamente es que tu y yo debemos purgarnos  de cada residuo de desprecio.”
