Loving Our Neighbors

Mar 12, 2018

We are called to love our neighbors – what does that mean? How are we responding to the immigration crisis in the world today – both in thought and action? Is deporting people the only way to solve this broken system? What is happening in their countries of origin that force them to leave? To what political and social reality is this system sending them back to?

Sharing stories helps to build connections and build ties with our immigrant and refugee neighbors. When we hear from immigrants — who they are, where they are from, why they are here, what they do — we can learn first-hand the challenges they face. Let us look our neighbors in the eyes. Ask questions. And listen.

Grant, O God, that your holy and life-giving Spirit may so move every human heart [and especially the hearts of the people of this land], that barriers which divide us may crumble, suspicions disappear, and hatreds cease; that our divisions being healed, we may live in justice and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
