This is an interactive seminar intended for persons in pastoral and ministry leadership roles who want to develop their emotional intelligence (EI) and learn how to access and use their EI in the practice of pastoral leadership. Emotional intelligence is the awareness of and learning how to manage one’s emotions, reactions, and responses to stress and anxiety in interpersonal and corporate relationships. For church leaders, developing emotional intelligence can be a crucial aspect of doing work with others in congregational and community contexts particularly during times of conflict and change. EI can be the difference between effective and positive leadership or ineffective and negative leadership. The first day will explore the concept of emotional intelligence and how it is connected to one’s family of origin. The second day will focus on practical applications of emotional intelligence in the context of ministry and other corporate settings and implications for interpersonal relationships as well.
