Ultimately, a great nation is a compassionate nation. America has not met its obligations and its responsibilities to the poor. One day we will have to stand before the God of history and we will talk in terms of things we’ve done.

On January 20th, Donald J. Trump will become our 47th President. Simultaneously, we will honor the 96th birthday of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. This striking national intersection offers us three opportunities: to celebrate the peaceful transfer of power, to be refreshed by the sustaining eloquence of Dr. King and to emulate his principled approach to presidents and politics.

In celebration of and thanksgiving for the life and ministry of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I thought I would try and distill a couple of reasons he gave for us to stay steadfastly hopeful.
