“Jesus went up the mountain to pray.” That is to say, Jesus occupied time in a particular way. “Technical civilization is our conquest of space,” Rabbi Heschel wrote, “…we expend time to gain space and the things of space..…” “But time,” he says, “is the heart of existence.” “The higher goal of spiritual living…is to face sacred moments. Spiritual life begins to decay when we fail to sense the grandeur of what is eternal in time.” What Rabbi Heschel is talking about is the “architecture of time.” When Jesus prayed it wasn’t simply the recitation of wants and wounds, but a practice of meeting God in time. In this mountain top prayer, time collapsed and suddenly Moses and Elijah were present talking to him. Though the disciples had fallen asleep, time provided all the companionship Jesus needed in that moment. And that moment provided just enough eternity for Jesus to face his destiny.

Tiempo
«Jesús subió al monte a orar». Es decir, Jesús utilizo su tiempo de una manera particular. «La civilización técnica es nuestra conquista del espacio», escribió el rabino Heschel, «… gastamos tiempo para ganar espacio y las cosas del espacio»…. «Pero el tiempo», dice, «es el corazón de la existencia». “La meta más alta de la vida espiritual… es enfrentar momentos sagrados. La vida espiritual comienza a decaer cuando no percibimos la grandeza de lo que es eterno en el tiempo “. De lo que habla el rabino Heschel es de la «arquitectura del tiempo». Cuando Jesús oró no fue simplemente la recitación de sus deseos y heridas, sino una práctica de encontrar a Dios a tiempo. En esta oración en la cima de la montaña, el tiempo se derrumbó y de repente Moisés y Elías estuvieron presentes hablando con él. Aunque los discípulos se habían quedado dormidos, el tiempo proporcionó toda la compañía que Jesús necesitaba en ese momento. Y ese momento proporcionó suficiente eternidad para que Jesús enfrentara su destino.
