There’s a weight we’re feeling. All of us. It’s heavier every day. It’s the plastic that chokes the sea turtles. The lack of affordable housing. The slave wages we pay to the planters and the pickers of our food. It’s the perverse patriotism that puts instruments of death in a river and calls them deterrents. Loneliness is pressing down and hope is barely floating. Hedonism, consumerism and I/me-ism only offer fleeting relief. Depression seems logical. The weight is the cumulative consequences of our arrogance, indifference and selfishness. God says to this, “I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked but that the wicked turn back from your evil ways….” God takes pleasure in the weight loss of new obedience- In the gravity-defying switch. There’s pleasure in the undoing.

Hay un peso que todos nosotros estamos sintiendo. Se hace más pesado todos los días. Es el plástico que contamina y ahoga a las tortugas marinas. Es la falta de viviendas accesibles. Los salarios ridículos, casi esclavistas, que pagamos a los granjeros y a los recolectores de nuestros alimentos. Es el patriotismo perverso que pone instrumentos de muerte en un río y los llama disuasorios. La soledad nos presiona cada día más hacia abajo y la esperanza apenas flota. El hedonismo, el consumismo y el Yo-ismo solo nos ofrecen alivio fugaz. La depresión parece lógica. El peso es la consecuencia acumulativa de nuestra arrogancia, indiferencia y egoísmo. Dios dice a esto: “No tengo placer en la muerte de los impíos, sino que los impíos se vuelvan de tus malos caminos…” Dios se complace cuando soltamos el peso de nuestros errores y comenzamos a vivir en una nueva obediencia- en el interruptor de desafío de la gravedad. Hay placer en comenzar de nuevo.
