I wonder what you think of The Ten Commandments? I wonder if you think of them as a gift and a grace? Think of it this way, what’s the best gift we can give our children? Love! And that love is more than a sentiment so it will take on concrete forms. One of those concrete expressions will be a sense of an ordered life. The order we share is not meant to oppress but to help maximize wisdom and joy and minimize pain and grief. We teach our children order so that they know how to play fairly with others and so all can thrive. Love is a system of order. Now if you would do this out of love for your children, do you begrudge God for sharing a system of order that grows individual integrity and commends shared responsibility for neighborliness and justice?
