Jesus said, “Peace be with you,” to his friends after the Resurrection. Their response was terror as if seeing a ghost, doubt and joy. Then Jesus creates peace he commends with three simple moves: look, touch and what’s for lunch? “Look” he tells his friends, the peace Jesus brings isn’t a spiritualized substitute for reality. Jesus’ peace is what helps us look deeply into what happened to him, to us and others. Avoidance makes no peace. “Touch me” he says. If Jesus is only a ghost and never endured bodily pain, why should we risk our necks for faith? If faith is only intellectual assent to an apparition, who needs it? Jesus turns to lunch, “have anything here to eat?” Meals continue to be the place where we meet and share our humanity with one another and so must they continue to be. Jesús dijo: «La paz sea contigo», a sus amigos después de la Resurrección. Su respuesta fue como si hubieran visto un fantasma, miedo, duda y alegría. Entonces Jesús crea la paz con tres movimientos simples: mirar, tocar y preguntar ¿qué hay para el almuerzo? «Miren» les dice a sus amigos, la paz que Jesús trae no es un sustituto espiritualizado de la realidad. La paz de Jesús es lo que nos ayuda a profundizar en lo que le sucedió a él, a nosotros y a los demás. Evitar nuestros miedos, no trae la paz. «Tócame», dice. Si Jesús es sólo un fantasma y nunca soportó dolor corporal, ¿por qué debemos arriesgar nuestra vida por fe en él? Si la fe es sólo un reconocimiento intelectual a una aparición, ¿quién la necesita? Jesús se vuelve a comer, «¿tienes algo aquí para comer?» Las comidas continúan siendo el lugar donde nos encontramos y compartimos nuestra humanidad entre nosotros y así deben seguir siendo. ¿A quién necesitas llevar a almorzar en servicio a la paz que Jesús nos trae en este tiempo de Pascua?
