When Paul writes his Magnum Opus, the book of Romans, he’s writing to the big city. He’s working out what it means to be a follower of Jesus, especially in a sophisticated society where there are many ways to believe. His argument is simple, “…all who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” His sentence should prompt at least one question, would those who know us best say we are led by the Spirit of God? The question is not meant to provoke guilt or shame, only reflection and amendment- maybe even a new integration of what we say on Sunday and how we live on Monday.
