Imitators

None of us is a complete original. We are made in the image of God. We resemble our parents and siblings. We share speech patterns and inflections. Even the clothes we choose are influenced by taste-makers. Archbishop Tutu used to say, “a person is a person through other persons.” Understanding this human design feature, St. Paul urges us to be “…imitators of God.” What a high bar! But, our faithfulness isn’t measured by us becoming a perfect replica of God, our faithfulness is measured in choosing to make God’s ways our aspiration especially when life is most trying. Our best self, decisions and work are found when we imitate God.

Imitadores

Ninguno de nosotros es completamente original. Estamos hechos a imagen y semejanza de Dios. Nos parecemos a nuestros padres y hermanos. Compartimos patrones de habla e inflexiones. Incluso la ropa que elegimos está influenciada por los creadores de gustos. El arzobispo Tutu solía decir: “una persona es una persona a través de otras personas”. Entendiendo esta característica del diseño humano, San Pablo nos insta a ser. “… imitadores de Dios”. ¡Qué expectativa tan alta! Pero, nuestra fidelidad no se mide por convertirnos en una réplica perfecta de Dios, nuestra fidelidad se mide por elegir hacer de los caminos de Dios nuestra aspiración, especialmente cuando la vida es más difícil. Lo mejor de nosotros mismos, nuestras decisiones y nuestro trabajo se presentan cuando imitamos a Dios.
