Simon and Andrew “immediately” dropped their net and joined Jesus’ friend making campaign. To my mind, either Jesus was exceedingly compelling, or their discontent with their occupation was peaking or both? Sometimes we can think of these bible stories in too pristine a way to be of good use. Life has so much grey. Life has so much of both. COVID has allowed many of us the space to acknowledge that we weren’t in love with our previous routine anyway. It’s just that the “sounds of our own wheels” drowned out that “still small voice.” Still, Jesus’ invitation persists. I wonder, are you discontent enough to hear Jesus’ offer anew? What would more urgent, more adventurous faith look like for you this year?

“Ambos”

Simón y Andrés abandonaron sus redes “inmediatamente” y se unieron a la campaña de creación de amigos de Jesús. En mi opinión, o Jesús fue sumamente convincente, o su descontento con su ocupación estaba llegando a su punto máximo ¿o ambas cosas? A veces podemos pensar en estas historias bíblicas de una manera demasiado prístina como para ser de utilidad. La vida tiene mucho gris. La vida tiene tanto de ambos. El COVID nos ha dado a muchos de nosotros el espacio para reconocer que, de todos modos, no estábamos enamorados de nuestra rutina anterior. Es solo que los “sonidos de nuestras propias ruedas” ahogaron esa “tranquila voz”. Aún así, la invitación de Jesús persiste. Me pregunto si estás lo suficientemente descontento como para escuchar la oferta de Jesús de nuevo. ¿Cómo sería para ti una fe más urgente y aventurera este año?
