The Mikell Board of Governors is excited to announce that Bishop Rob Wright has appointed The Rev. Hazel Smith Glover as Mikell’s interim executive director. Hazel has a long history at Mikell; as a lifelong Episcopalian, she has been a camper, Adventure Camp and Kid Camp dean, and Mikell board member. Hazel was ordained a priest in 1993 and recently retired after 30 years in parish ministry. Hazel will lead Mikell through this season of transition, during which the board and interim will work with the Bishop’s office to prepare and search for the next executive director. Please join us in praying for Hazel in this new ministry, and in welcoming her back to Mikell!
A note from The Rev. Hazel Glover:
I am both honored and humbled to be called as Interim Executive Director of Mikell Camp and Conference Center.
There’s a palpable sacredness here, Mikell Magic as many call it. The sacredness is about the deep connections made here with community, nature, and God. Bonds formed at Mikell tend to span decades. Personally, my faith has been enriched by hanging out with other clergy in rocking chairs, around the table in Smith, taking long walks, sitting by the retreat village creek, or huddled around a cozy fire. Occasionally a speaker at clergy conference has left an indelible mark on my sense of authentic community. Doug Meeks is one of those speakers for me. In God the Economist Meeks defines home as a place where everybody knows your name and your story reminds them of your name. It is a place where you are encouraged, confronted, and forgiven. It is where there’s always a place for you at the table.
May we remain open to each other and aware of the sacred which connects us.
