With Valentine’s Day on the way, let’s talk about love. Not the candy hearts, chocolate strawberries and champagne of it all but the bricks and mortar of human love, reconciliation. Jesus thinks that this is so important he advises us that “…when you remember that someone has something against you, get up, leave the worship service and be reconciled to your brother or sister.” Jesus prioritizes actual reconciliation as worship over simple participation in worship. Tells you a lot about God huh? It also tells you a lot about the agency that faith is supposed to create in us. Don’t wait on the apology from the other even if it is deserved, YOU, the believer, the worshipper, the follower of Jesus, YOU attempt the reconciliation! In doing as Jesus has prescribed we aren’t guaranteed full restoration with the brother or sister but we have demonstrated our love for God by committing ourselves to the ministry of reconciliation.

Con San Valentín aproximándose, hablemos un poco sobre el amor. No los de los corazones de caramelo, fresas con chocolate y champán burbujeante, pero sobre los ladrillos y el mortero que forman el amor humano; hablemos de la reconciliación. Jesús piensa que esto es tan importante que nos aconseja que “…cuando recuerdes que alguien tiene algo contra ti, levántate, abandona el servicio de adoración y ve a reconciliarte con tu hermano o hermana”. Jesús prioriza la reconciliación verdadera como acto de adoración, la cual toma prioridad sobre la simple participación en loa servicios de adoración. Esto nos habla mucho de Dios, ¿verdad? Esto también nos dice mucho acerca de la agencia que se supone que la fe debe crear en nosotros. ¡No esperes la disculpa del otro, aunque sea merecida, TÚ, el creyente, el adorador, el seguidor de Jesús, ¡TÚ debes intentar la reconciliación con quien te ha herido! Al hacer lo que Jesús ha dicho, no se nos garantiza una restauración completa de nuestra relación con el hermano o la hermana, pero debemos demostrar nuestro amor por Dios , al comprometernos con el ministerio de la reconciliación.
