Jesus is always on the move. He’s at the shore. At a dinner party. On a boat. In the Temple. His earthly life and his resurrected life are full of passing through. While he moves, he carries his pain – he knows his end. He keeps moving, carrying his joy – he knows his end. He keeps walking as his friends bicker about rank and title. Jesus passes through, but then he pauses. He pauses to greet a child. He pauses to bring some “right-side up-ness” to an upside-down world. He pauses to tell/show us what God is like. Some of us have profound experiences of God. We say things like, “we paused long enough to hear from God.” There’s truth there. But maybe what happened in those moments was that God paused to speak to us. Paused with us. Paused for us. Paused to teach the world a lesson through us.
