The Rev. Marek Zabriskie, the rector of Christ Church Episcopal in Greenwich, Connecticut, is the featured preacher March 28, Palm Sunday, and April 4, Easter Sunday, on Day1 with host Peter Wallace. The program includes interviews with Zabriskie conducted by Wallace, who is also the executive producer. The nationally broadcast ecumenical radio program is accessible online on Day1.org and by podcast.
Rev. Zabriskie came to Christ Church in 2018 after serving for 23 years as rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church Whitemarsh in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. Earlier, he served churches in Richmond, Virginia, and Nashville, Tennessee. Rev. Zabriskie studied philosophy at Emory University and trained for the priesthood at Yale and Berkeley Divinity Schools. He has published and edited several books, including The Bible Challenge, a popular study guide used worldwide, that helps people read the entire Bible in a year.
His sermon for Palm Sunday, “The Donkey Detail,” is based on Mark 11:1-11, the account of Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem. Rev Zabriskie says, “I have learned that God assigns us little tasks in life that make a crucial difference, like fetching donkeys.”
His Easter sermon, “God Says, ‘Nevertheless,’” is drawn from the account of the visit of Mary Magdalene, Mary, the mother of James, and Salome to the tomb found in Mark 16:1-8. “The resurrection is an outrageous assault on our shrunken worldviews,” he says. “It’s a full-frontal attack on our Good Friday outlook when God dreams for us to have an Easter reality.”
Day1 has been broadcast every week for more than 75 years, formerly as The Protestant Hour. Featuring outstanding preachers from the mainline denominations, Day1 is currently distributed to more than 200 radio stations across America and overseas.
