God gave Timothy many gifts. The gift of a mother and grandmother who passed on their sincere faith to him. The gift of clarity: “God did not give us a spirit of fear.” And the gifts of power, love and self-discipline. Also translated as ability, love and sanity. These three gifts are the hallmarks of Jesus’ spirituality. Power is faith that is consequential. Love is the increasing awareness of God’s love and replicating it. And sanity is a strategy of self management that produces health for us and the community. In the words of Nobel Peace Prize recipient Archbishop Desmond Tutu: “What do we have that is not a gift?”

Dios le dio a Timoteo muchos regalos. El regalo de una madre y una abuela que le transmitieron su sincera fe. El don de la claridad: “Dios no nos dio un espíritu de miedo”. Y los dones de poder, amor y autodisciplina. También traducido como habilidad, amor y cordura. Estos tres regalos son las características de la espiritualidad de Jesús. El poder es fe que es consecuente. El amor es la creciente conciencia del amor de Dios y su réplica. Y la cordura es una estrategia de dominio propio que produce salud para nosotros y la comunidad.
