“WE” at the 110th Annual Council

Dec 14, 2016

Clergy and lay delegates to Annual Council 2016 met November 18-19 to celebrate “WE” as a diocese.

Hosted by the Southwest Atlanta Convocation, the event had over 450 people gathered at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park for the 110th Council of the Diocese of Atlanta.

In addition to the legislative sessions and elections, highlights of the meeting were a reception for departing Assistant Bishop Keith Whitmore and Susie Whitmore and a service project in which delegates joined with our Episcopal Youth to package 20,000 meals to be sent to Haiti and Belize by Stop Hunger Now.

When surveyed, many attendees cited the joyful worship of the opening Eucharist and youth-led service as well as the opportunity to network with Episcopalians from across Middle and North Georgia as the most meaningful  parts of their Annual Council experience.

The theme of the 110th Council was “WE” – the first word in our Purpose Statement adopted by the 109th Council:  “We challenge ourselves and the world to love like Jesus as we worship joyfully, serve compassionately and grow spiritually.”

The Annual Council Archives on our website www.episcopalatlanta.org will be updated in the next several weeks with final legislation approved and election results once the minutes are complete.
