The Right Reverend Robert Wright has commissioned Darlene Swanson to serve as a Licensed Lay Preacher

Darlene is a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Roswell and earned her Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta. 

As a Licensed Lay Preacher, Darlene may now preach in congregations of any diocese at the invitation of a member of clergy and with the consent of the bishop in whose jurisdiction the service will occur. 

Darlene will preach at St. David’s on Sunday, October 9th. The clergy of St. David’s welcomesDarlene to the pulpit and looks forward to her preaching ministry.

According to the Canons of the Episcopal Church, “A lay preacher is to be trained, examined, and found competent in the Holy Scriptures, the Book of Common Prayer, The Hymnal, the conduct of public worship, use of the voice, church history, Christian ethics and moral theology, the church’s doctrine as set forth in the creeds and An Outline of the Faith (BCP, pp. 845-862), appropriate canons, pastoral care, and homiletics.”
