The Diocese of Atlanta’s youth programs are on a sustained upward trajectory. Since the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic disruption, retreats, summer camps, and other diocesan youth programs have grown each year, said Diocesan Youth Missioner Holle Tubbs.
The third time proved to be the charm for the young people and Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) leaders at Christ Episcopal Church in Norcross. Twice, their hoped-for pilgrimage to Ireland had been scuttled by COVID-19. This June their persistence paid off.

TOCCOA, GA - Of the seven summer camps at Camp Mikell, Work Camp is unlike any of the other sessions. First, while the other six are gatherings for relaxing, singing, skits, swimming, hiking, and making new friends for life, Work Camp is, well, work. Each year campers paint and repair cabins, huts, and shelters, muck out creeks, clear trails, and dig, shovel, hoe, and rake much of the camp’s 460 acres. Last Saturday, 125 youth from across the Diocese came together for our annual tradition of worship, fellowship, and tubing the Chattahoochee River in Helen, Georgia. Special thanks to our participating parishes for making this day so special.
The Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta is celebrating the ongoing impact of its Children’s Defense Fund’s Freedom Schools® summer programs in Atlanta and Macon. Bishop Rob Wright said both programs have proven to close the achievement gap by improving literacy and learning for children who face poverty and lack access to the educational resources they need to succeed. The diocese’s first Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools® program in 2015 was on the campus of Emmaus House in the Peoplestown neighborhood of Atlanta.
