Hello everyone and Happy Easter! Jesus Christ is Risen! Today, the Joint Nominating Committee for the Election of the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church has released its slate of nominees and I and three other of my Bishop colleagues have been named.
This news is an incredible affirmation of our work together in Middle and North Georgia and an honor for me personally. This nomination means that people have seen our work and believe that we have something to offer the wider church. So well done to the clergy, laity and, young people of The Diocese of Atlanta. And well done to the entire Bishop’s Staff.
What happens next is that we continue to listen to the Spirit as we make our way to The General Convention of the church in Louisville Kentucky this summer. There on the morning of June 26th the House of Bishops will gather for worship and prayer and proceed to elect our 28th Presiding Bishop. Later that day the House of Deputies will confirm the election.
I’m asking you to think of this election process not in terms of winning and losing, there’s enough of that in the world, but rather in terms of discernment. What I and my fellow finalist want above all else is for God’s will to be revealed and God’s will to be done in this process. When God’s will is done, we find ourselves exactly where we are best suited to bring our gifts to bear and bless the world.
So let us continue praying for The Episcopal Church, for all of her bishops, clergy and lay people. And with prayers especially for all of those nominated, their families, and the diocese they presently serve as we complete this discernment road in June.

Hoy, el conjunto del Comité Nominador para la Elección del Obispo Presidente de la Iglesia Episcopal ha publicado su lista de elegidos. Tres de mis colegas obispos y yo hemos sido nombrados.
Esta noticia es una afirmación increíble de nuestro trabajo juntos en Georgia Central y del Norte y un honor para mí personalmente. Esta nominación significa que la gente ha visto nuestro trabajo y cree que tenemos algo que ofrecer a la iglesia en general. Así que, bien hecho al clero, laicos y jóvenes de la Diócesis de Atlanta. Bien hecho a todo el personal del Obispo.
Lo que sucede a continuación es que continuamos escuchando al Espíritu mientras nos dirigimos a la Convención General de la iglesia en Louisville, Kentucky, este verano. Allí, en la mañana del 26 de junio, la Cámara de Obispos se reunirá para adorar y orar y procederá a elegir a nuestro 28º Obispo primado. Más tarde ese mismo día, la Cámara de Diputados confirmará la elección.
Les pido que piensen en este proceso electoral no en términos de ganar o perder. Ya hay suficiente de eso en el mundo. Les pido que piensen en ello en términos de discernimiento. Lo que mis finalistas y yo queremos, por encima de todo, es que se revele la voluntad de Dios y que se haga la voluntad de Dios en este proceso. Cuando se hace la voluntad de Dios, nos encontramos exactamente donde estamos mejor preparados para llevar nuestros dones y bendecir al mundo.
Así que sigamos orando por la Iglesia Episcopal, por todos sus obispos, clérigos y laicos. Y con oraciones especialmente por todos los nominados, sus familias y la diócesis a la que sirven actualmente mientras completamos este camino de discernimiento en junio. Dios es bueno, nuestro trabajo continúa, seguimos adelante.
