Since 2017, the Diocese of Atlanta and the Anglican Diocese of Cape Coast have journeyed together in faith, friendship, and shared ministry. The year 2027 marks ten years since the Diocese of Atlanta first began these pilgrimages, a decade of lives transformed through relationship, learning, and the generous hospitality of our Ghanaian siblings.
Hosted by the Absalom Jones Episcopal Center for Racial Healing (AJECRH), this seventh pilgrimage, following a pause in travel during the COVID-19 pandemic, invites participants into a year-long journey of spiritual formation, historical learning, and authentic community. As we deepen our understanding of the legacy of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, we also seek to deepen our commitment to human dignity, justice, and healing.
As we celebrate ten years of pilgrimage, we are delighted to welcome the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina as our full pilgrimage partner in 2027. For the first time, cohorts from two dioceses will journey together to the Anglican Diocese of Cape Coast, strengthening relationships with one another while deepening our shared partnership with our Ghanaian companions. Application Information

- Space: Space is limited
- Cost: $4,400 per person (double occupancy). $4,500 (single occupancy). This includes round-trip airfare to Ghana, transportation and hotel accommodations in Ghana, Atlanta, and South Carolina, all meals, excursions, entrance fees, and gratuity.
- Deposit: $500 deposit due by September 1, 2026
- Additional Costs: Passports, vaccinations, and personal items are the responsibility of each pilgrim.
Pilgrimage Investment and Financial Support
As this is a diocesan-wide pilgrimage, some parishes may sponsor individuals from their congregation. If interested, please inquire with your rector or parish leadership for financial and spiritual support.
Participation Expectations
The preparation process is an essential part of the pilgrimage and is not separate from the journey itself. Participation in all preparation gatherings, including the two domestic pilgrimages, is expected, as each session builds upon the last and helps form the community that will journey together to Ghana.
Our preparation includes two domestic pilgrimages. The first brings us together in Atlanta to launch the pilgrimage year, meet past pilgrimage cohorts, and explore Atlanta’s connection to the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. The second takes us to Charleston, South Carolina, to deepen our understanding of its significance in the history of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade while building relationships with our companion cohort from the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina.
We understand that unforeseen conflicts may occasionally arise. If you anticipate missing a gathering, please let us know as early as possible so we can work with you and ensure you remain connected to the formation process.
