Jesus speaks of three kinds of sheep. The shepherd-less sheep; the lost sheep and the sent sheep. The sheep without a shepherd moved Jesus to “compassion” because they were “harassed and helpless” without a guide, protector and provider. Then there are the lost sheep, those who despite being immersed in their faith tradition are lost. Somehow they don’t know the good news, nor do they realize that the “kingdom of heaven is near.” Lastly, Jesus speaks of the sent sheep. These sheep are us! We are sent into the world under Jesus’ authority. We know that the world is dangerous, we know that government and religion are hostile to a truth-telling, neighbor-loving, justice-thirsty, active faith, and yet we live for Jesus and partner with him in his purposes.

Tres tipos de ovejas
Jesús habla de tres tipos de ovejas. La oveja sin pastor; las ovejas perdidas y las ovejas enviadas. Las ovejas sin pastor llevaron a Jesús a la “compasión” porque estaban “acosadas e indefensas” sin guía, protector ni proveedor. Luego están las ovejas perdidas, aquellas que, a pesar de estar inmersas en su tradición de fe, están perdidas. De alguna manera no conocen las buenas noticias, ni se dan cuenta de que el “reino de los cielos está cerca”. Por último, Jesús habla de las ovejas enviadas. ¡Estas ovejas somos nosotros! Somos enviados al mundo bajo la autoridad de Jesús. Sabemos que el mundo es peligroso, sabemos que el gobierno y la religión son hostiles a una fe activa que dice la verdad, ama al prójimo, es sedienta de justicia y que es activa, y sin embargo vivimos para Jesús y nos asociamos con él en sus propósitos.
