‘We support freedom and religion as long as they take their place behind our right to make a dollar.’ I bet Paul and Silas heard sentiments like that when they cast out a money making demon that gave a slave girl the ability to tell fortunes. Now, she’s free from demon possession but Paul and Silas are dungeon occupants. Her release led to their captivity. It’s a curious thing about us, we castigate those who point out the ways we’re captive. It seems we only want freedom to choose our captivity and religion to help us maintain it. But, it’s release that God wants for us and for those we hold captive. Release, like the joyful singing Paul and Silas did from their jail cell. Release, like their jailers’ decision to know Paul and Silas’ Jesus.
