In our tradition, each Sunday we all stand together and say, “We Believe…” It’s a pretty powerful moment when you think about it. Especially when you remember that people are standing all over the earth saying those same exact words. God knows those two words aren’t magic. And, God knows those two words will only be as consequential as we choose to make them. Still, it’s our starting place, our Sun around which we orbit. The word “believe” in this context is better rendered as the word trust. That is our most profound identity marker as individuals and as a community-that we intend to trust God. Funny how we often race right past that fact to the divisions De Jour! Jesus came to declare that trusting God, no matter the season or circumstance was the best way to “…interpret the times.”

En nuestra tradición, todos los domingos nos unimos y decimos: “Creemos…” Es un momento bastante poderoso cuando piensas en ello. Especialmente cuando recuerdas que la gente está de pie por toda la tierra diciendo esas mismas palabras exactas. Dios sabe que esas dos palabras no son mágicas. Y, Dios sabe que esas dos palabras solo serán tan constantes como elegimos hacerlas. Aún así, es nuestro lugar de partida, nuestro Sol alrededor del cual orbitamos. La palabra “creer” en este contexto se traduce mejor como la palabra confianza. Ese es nuestro marcador de identidad más profundo como individuos y como comunidad, que podemos confiar en Dios. Es curioso cómo a menudo corremos más allá de ese hecho a los problemas del día. Jesús vino a declarar que confiar en Dios, sin importar la temporada o circunstancia, era la mejor manera de “…interpretar los tiempos.”
