Second Bishop Frank Kellogg Allan and Elizabeth Ansley Allan Lecture | Featuring Dr. Rosa Brooks Author of “Tangled Up In Blue”
October 19, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Hosted by the Absalom Jones Center for Racial Healing, this lecture will occur on October 19 from 6-8 PM.
The guest will be Dr. Rosa Brooks, Georgetown Law professor, and a sworn reserve police officer of the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police. As a former patrol officer in one of the poorest and most crime-ridden communities in our nation, Dr. Brooks will present a revelatory account of what it’s like inside the “blue wall of silence”, and the urgent need for police reform.
Dr. Brooks wrote a book about her experience training and serving as a police officer, titled, Tangled Up in Blue. In 2017, she used what she learned to create the Police for Tomorrow program, which took police officers and Metro PD civilian employees with less than a year on the job to participate in intensive monthly workshops on topics such as race and policing, implicit bias, poverty and crime, and numerous others. We encourage you to read her book to engage in what will be a powerful and enlightening conversation about the state of our nation’s law enforcement agencies.
