Pathways journal wins 3 Awards of Excellence

by staff

Pathways, the Diocese of Atlanta quarterly journal, received three Awards of Excellence from the Episcopal Communicators, meeting last week in Seattle and two Honorable Mentions.

Pathways, the Diocese of Atlanta quarterly journal, received three Awards of Excellence for diocesan newsletters - for writing, graphic design and overall excellence -- from the Episcopal Communicators, who met in Seattle last week. Pathways is edited by Nan Ross, director of communication. Stephanie Ciscel Brown, a member of Church of the Epiphany, designs four covers for each issue and serves as graphic design adviser for many diocesan projects. Awards were for work completed in 2007.

Our communications effort also was awarded two Honorable Mentions: for Connecting, the diocesan weekly e-newsletter, edited by Ross; and for a brochure about the diocese's Alleluia Fund, which involved the work of the Brown, Ross and the Rev. Alicia Schuster Weltner, canon for congregational development.

One judge called articles in Pathways "inviting, lively and clearly demonstrate the professional skills of their writers and editor.... The magazine is beautifully designed and presented... (It) clearly reflects the months of planning that go into each issue."

The quality of the printing and image reproduction was called "excellent throughout." Pathways is printed by Walton Press in Monroe.

The Episcopal Communicators' annual competition for diocesan, national and parish communications is named for Polly Bond of the Diocese of Ohio, one of the founders of the 37-year-old organization.

Congratulations again for a consistently excellent publication that is not only an example of good journalism but an image much fulfilled in reflection of our diocese, its people and its stories. The Best, Kendall Lockerman

No surprise about 'Pathways' awards! Every issue encourages the reader to move fwd, to be informed & involved in our wonderful diocese, and provides specific ways in which individual & group efforts CAN make a positive difference in our world!

Nan, congratulations and thanks ... Pathways and Connecting are so important to me, helping me still feel connected (no pun intended) to all the people and ministries back in Atlanta as I serve outside my home diocese. I read every issue with pleasure and pride!
